CONNECTION

The artist establishes connection with their environment, community, medium, process, ideas, and beliefs and uses these connections as a point of departure for their practice. In what ways do connections inspire a practice and allow it to grow? How do artists establish new connections and how do they let go of old connections for new ones to emerge? To what extent do you need to be connected to your subject matter to use it? Most recently, we saw Dana Schutz criticized for not having a valid connection to her subject matter. How do we establish legitimate connections to our practice?
